Dorah bought some peaches at the market and I stumbled upon this one this morning that happened to have a small heart-shaped sticker with the words “peach & love.” Someone, somewhere decided to make the executive decision to make these stickers and then order someone else, somewhere to place them meticulously on every other peach only to have the peach end up in the hands of someone, somewhere in Paris, who probably won’t understand that “peach & love” is indeed a pun for “peace and love,” which is, perhaps, a nostalgic throwback to another era that seemed wrought with protest and anger but in a metaphoric steeple chase, it would be soaking wet, 50 yards behind the despair of today. If only it could al be as innocent and benign as a peach. Or if every simple pleasure came with a message disguised in a pun.
