Arrache toi un Oeil / We Love Art

Yesterday, we stopped by “We Love Sonique From the Body to the Mind” organized  by We Love Art.  We’ll probably go back today.  In any case, I was impressed by We Love Art’s hot pink/fuschia black flyer which was all very Berlin.  This electric aesthetic resonates in the “Events” part of their web site…check out that pink lightbox !

I’ve seen the font that they used for “WE LOVE” and “EVENTS” in many places…and I’ve always liked it.  After a quick search on DaFont, I cannot seem to find it…have I seen it there before?  Anyway, I WANT THIS FONT. Oh wait, I just found it.  It’s called “Sketch Block” and it is on DaFont.  I love that it’s heavy and solid… and at the same time it breathes.  It’s shape is a printerly Johannes Gutenberg homage and it’s detailed hand-made interieur is very modern and digital at the same time.  Love it :

In addtion, we saw some people from Arrache Toi Un Oeil selling some concert prints that we fully enjoyed (see above gallery).  I am a bigger fan of Gaspard’s work for his experimentation with typography coupled with his selection of old photographs.  His (Her?) composition is startling and totally unexpected.  The color, the movement, etc.  I love the post-psychadelic concert poster / screenprint movement: the artwork is affordable and despite the fact that they are reproduced en masse, the works are emotive, inspired, and original.  They’re not really made to “communicate” per say and I’m not even sure if they inspire ticket sales.  What drives these posters’ existence?  Without a doubt, the music.
